Where to Eat
Panama City Beach
Legendary worldwide for its beautiful beaches and subtropical climate, Panama City Beach is a natural draw for vacationers seeking warmth and sunshine. Located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, and with easy highway access, Panama City Beach is always inviting with average year-round temperatures of 78 degrees and water temperatures averaging 72 degrees.
Facilities: Restrooms, Showers, Watersport/Beach Gear Rentals
Visitors have access to this barrier island treasure via several sightseeing businesses in the Panama City Beach area. Shell Island's great stretches of white sand and windswept dunes are just as they appeared to visitors centuries ago.
St. Andrews State Park
East end of Thomas Dr Panama City Beach, FL. 1,260 acres of beautiful beaches, natural coastal dumes, wetlands and forests.
Facilities: Beach Ramp, Concessions, Grills, Showers
Getting a tan, running yourself ragged at beach sports and going hammer-and-tongs at the nightlife are the main concerns in Panama City Beach. If you get restless, try go-karting, jet-skiing or parasailing; otherwise, visit one of the amusement parks (usually $18 for a go-on-everything day ticket) or go on a fishing trip (from around $30 a day). For scuba-divers, several explorable shipwrecks litter the area; get details from any of the numerous dive shops
Places to stay, while plentiful, fill with amazing speed, especially at weekends. The cheapest places to eat are the buffet restaurants on Front Beach Road, which charge $5-10 for all you can manage. Or, try one of the regular lunch or dinner restaurants: Shuckum's Oyster Pub & Seafood Grill, 15618 W Hwy-98 (tel 850/235-3214); Mike's Diner, 17554 Front Beach Rd (tel 850/234-1942), also open for breakfast and serving tasty Southern-style food; or The Treasure Ship , 3605 Thomas Drive (tel 850/234-8881), a seafood restaurant that looks like a wooden sailing ship.
